Plant vs. Undead is a play-to-earn game where players can plant and grow seeds and use them to battle against a wave of undead zombies.

Currently, the only play-to-earn aspect of the game is through farming and earning Light Energy (LE).

In this guide, we’ll teach you how to start your gardening journey in Plant vs. Undead: how to plant sunflowers, how to water plants, and how to harvest rewards.

Overview on Farming in Plant vs. Undead

If you want to earn a profit while playing Plant vs. Undead, you will need to play the farming mode.

(Related Guide: How to Earn by Playing Plant vs Undead)

Farming in PvU consists of planting your own seeds, watering your own farm and other players’ farm and collecting a resource called Light Energy or LE.

LE can be converted into PVU tokens which can be sold on crypto exchanges.

You can earn LE by harvesting it from your own seeds (once they grow after a few days), or by doing the daily quest which is watering other players’ plants.

Also, the game has just recently released Farm 2.0 which introduces new game mechanics and new ways to earn for all players.

How to Start Farming in Plant vs. Undead

Here is a step-by-step guide on how to start playing the farming game mode in Plant vs. Undead.

1. Buy at least 5 PVU Tokens

The very first thing you need to start your Plant vs Undead journey is to buy PVU tokens.

This is the native cryptocurrency token of the Plant vs. Undead game. PVU can be purchased from exchanges such as Pancakeswap.

You will need at least 5 PVU tokens in your MetaMask wallet to become a gardener.

Here’s a separate guide on how to buy PVU tokens and transfer them to your MetaMask wallet.

2. Buy BNB tokens

Aside from the PVU tokens, make sure to have a few BNB tokens on your wallet as well.

You can buy BNB tokens from Binance.

This will be used for gas fees in the game, as the game runs on the Binance Smart Chain (BSC).

You will be paying very minimal fees as you interact and do transactions with the game.

Once you have enough PVU and BNB tokens on your wallet, it’s time to actually login to the game.

Just go to https://marketplace.plantvsundead.com/farm and login using your MetaMask wallet.

4. Go to PVU Farm tab

Next, go to the Farm tab on the Plant vs Undead web app to start playing.

However, there’s a huge chance you will get the “Farm Maintenance” error.

If that’s the case, you will have to wait for your batch schedule.

Currently, the game is implementing a batch scheduling system where players are assigned a batch and each batch can only play during a specific time period.

This is to prevent the server from overloading if all players play the game at the same time.

We have a guide here to check the current schedules for each batch.

Unfortunately, there’s no way to know which batch you currently belong. You just need to keep coming back every hour to see if you’re able to login.

Once it’s your batch’s turn and you’re able to enter the game, it’s time to move on to the next steps to start farming!

5. Convert PVU to LE

You’ll need to convert your PVU tokens to an in-game resource called Light Energy (LE), since tools and seeds in farming are bought using LE, not PVU.

To do this click the blue swap button on the upper right (which also indicates the number of LE you have).

You can convert with an exchange rate of 1 PVU = 70 LE.

6. Claim your free land plots

All players receive free land plots: 1 slot for a mother tree, and 5 slots for plants which is where you can plant Sunflowers.

You can claim this on the “Land” tab in the farm interface.

To buy farming tools, go to the Shop by clicking on the pink button on the left.

To start planting sunflowers, you will need at least one small pot and 1 set of water which is usable 100 times.

You can also buy a scarecrow which will be used to farm daily LE (more on this below!)

These tools will cost a small amount of LE.

Important tip: When buying items on the shop with LE, make sure to click the buy button (i.e. the button with the LE cost) only once! Sometimes the game lags and may lead you to accidentally double click on buttons. This will also perform the transaction multiple times which is probably not what you want. Remember, only click once and wait for the UI to update!

8. Buy Sunflower seeds

To buy Sunflower seeds, go to the “Sunflower” tab next to “Tools” in the Shop.

You can buy a Sunflower Sapling for 100 LE which gives you 250 LE after 3 days, or Sunflower Mama for 200 LE which gives you 850 LE after 6 days.

Another option is to gamble with the Sun Box for 100 LE which gives you a chance to obtain the following:

  • 30% to drop 100x water and 20x scarecrows
  • 30% to drop 2x small pots
  • 30% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling
  • 9.9% to drop 1x Sunflower Mama
  • 0.1% to drop 1x seed

Again, remember to click only once when buying from the shop.

9. Plant Sunflowers on your farm and water them

Once you’ve bought some seeds and some watering tools, you’re now ready to plant your Sunflower!

Just go back to your Land tab or click on the green “plus” icon on the upper left, next to your PVU token number.

Select an available land, then click the Sunflower tab, then select a sunflower that you want to plant (either a Sunflower Sapling or Sunflower Mama).

Go back to your farm home and you will see the new plant with a “Add pot to start farming” label.

Click on the plant slot and click on “Use” button next to the pot.

Water your plant two times by also clicking on the “Use” button next to the watering can icon.

10. Water other players’ plants and chase crows

Your sunflowers will take a few days to fully grow where you can harvest a huge amount of LE.

While waiting for your sunflowers to mature, you can do the daily quest of tending other players’ plants.

Click the 3rd “green” icon on the left to go to the land map. Here you can click on any plot to visit the farms of other players and see the plants growing on their lands.

You can then select plants to water for a small chance to get Sunflower Saplings:

  • When water count is between 0–19: 10% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling.
  • When water count is between 20–39: 9% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling.
  • When water count is between 40–59: 8% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling.
  • When water count is between 60–79: 7% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling.
  • When water count is between 80–99: 6% to drop 1x Sunflower Sapling.
  • When water count is between 100 or higher, there would be no Sapling drop.

This means you should look for plants where the water count is as low as possible.

You can water up to 15 times daily to get 50 LE.

There’s also a small chance where crows appear on the plot. You can chase them using scare crows for a 10% chance to drop two Sunflower Saplings.

10. Harvest Light Energy from your Sunflowers

Once you’re Sunflowers have fully grown, it’s time to harvest their Light Energies!

Just go to your farm and harvest your sunflowers one by one, or click on Harvest All button on the upper right.

Once harvested, you can “Remove” the land plot so you can plant another plant on that slot.

How to Water Plants in Plant vs. Undead

Aside from planting sunflowers and harvesting them, you should also help grow other players’ crops by watering them and chasing crows.

This will help them so they can harvest their plants early and keep the economy running in the game.

Here’s how to water plants in Plant vs. Undead.

Just click on a plant slot then click “Use” beside the watering can icon.

There’s also a small chance where crows appear on the plot. You can chase them using scare crows for a 10% chance to drop two Sunflower Saplings.

Here’s a full guide on how to find crows and scare them away.

You can water up to 15 times daily to get 50 LE, and you can scare crows away up to 5 times a day.
