How much does it cost to start playing and earning in Axie Infinity?

In the case of Axie Infinity, the entrance fee is a starter team of three (3) Axies which can be bought from the marketplace.

At the time of writing, the cheapest Axie costs around $270. Multiply this by three and that’s the starting cost of playing Axie Infinity.

However, this amount is very volatile at the moment and may drastically change depending on when you’re reading this article.

One thing that’s keeping them from entering though is the relatively high barrier for entry to start playing.

If you are still about to begin your Axie journey today, chances are the prices of base Axies are very high compared to a few months back.

The good news is, there are still new ways that aspiring players can enter the Axie Universe without spending a single cent.

In the next section, we’ll talk about two ways where players can start playing and earning with Axie Infinity without even taking out your wallets.

How to Get Free Axies in Axie Infinity

1. Axie Scholarship programs

The first method to get free Axies and start playing without spending any amount of money is by applying for Axie Scholarships.

When you are accepted to work as a scholar for a manager, you will be given a free team of three Axies.

You will then use them to battle on Adventure and/or Arena and earn SLP. The SLP rewards will then be divided between you and your manager, depending on an agreed upon percentage.

Note that scholarships are community-driven initiatives and are mostly done outside the game.

2. Upcoming Free-to-Play Axies in Battles Version 2.0

The second method of obtaining free Axies is not yet available at the moment, but it’s coming real soon!

Free-to-play Axies will soon be available in the much awaited Battles Version 2.0.

Sky Mavis, the developers of Axie Infinity, has been hinting for months now about new features and game modes where players can get a free Axie team at no cost.

However, the devs have officially stated that these free Axies will not be able to earn tokens and these are solely for introducing people into the game.

There is fake news spreading that free-to-play Axies from the upcoming V2 battles (Origin) will be able to earn tokens.

The free Axies will be solely for introducing people to the game and will have no earning ability.

While these upcoming free Axies will not be able to play-to-earn, it will still be great for the Axie Infinity economy overall.

Axie Infinity being free-to-play will encourage more players to try out the game and, if they like it (and they will for sure!), they might actually take out their wallets and buy a team!
