There are many ways to obtain cards in Legends of Runeterra. One of these methods is by using Wildcards which makes it very easy for beginners and F2P players to craft their desired decks!
This guide will teach you how to use Wildcards in Legends of Runeterra. Plus, we’ll give you some quick tips on how to obtain more Wildcards.
What are Wildcards in Legends of Runeterra?
Wildcards are a currency in Runeterra that lets you craft any card of the same rarity.
If you didn’t know, there are four types of card rarity in the game identified by their color:
- Common — Green
- Rare — Blue
- Epic — Violet
- Champion — Orange
So you can trade one Green Wildcard into a Precious Pet card which is a Common card.
Or if you want to craft a new Champion card such as Draven or Ezreal, you can trade one Orange Wildcard and you get a new Champion card for free!
The other methods to obtain cards are using Shards and Coins. However, as a rule of thumb, it’s always best to consume your Wildcards first, because Shards and Coins may be used for other purposes but Wildcards can only be used for crafting cards.

Here’s how to use Wildcards in Legends of Runeterra.
1. Go to your Card Collection
First, go to your card collections either by going to Collection -> Cards section, or when creating/editing a deck.
2. Select a Card you want to craft
Once you tap a card you’ll see which Wildcard rarity it requires, along with the cost in Shards or Coins.
You’ll also see how many Wildcards balance you have available for that rarity.
3. Tap the “Wildcard” button to craft the card
In this example, I have x2 copies of the Precious Pet card and I can craft one more copy for 10 Green Wildcards each by tapping on the Wildcard button.
Remember, you can only have a maximum of 3 copies of each card. If you don’t already have three copies, you may still craft that card. You can check how many copies you own by the three orange dots at the bottom of each card. Or if you tap the card, you’ll also see the counter on the top right corner.
How to obtain more Wildcards in Runenterra
There are several ways to obtain Wildcards in Legends of Runeterra.
1. Playing lots of Legends of Runeterra games!
In general, you will naturally obtain lots of Wildcards as you play lots of LoR games over time.
Playing games will give you EXP points which will contribute in leveling up both your activated Region and your Weekly Vault.

Leveling up your regions will earn your Capsules and Chests which may contain Wildcards of different rarities.
2. Buy Wildcards from the Shop
Wildcards may also be purchased from the shop using Coins (the premium currency in the game):
- Champion Wildcard — 300 Coins
- Epic Wildcard — 120 Coins
- Rare Wildcard — 30 Coins
- Common Wildcard — 10 Coins
Gone are the days of spending money to buy card packs hoping to get your desired cards—you can actually spend just enough real-life cash to get that one specific card you want!
