How to Use Incantations in Elden Ring and Cast Magic Spells

Incantations in Elden Ring allow you to use magic spells, which can be offensive or defensive in nature.

In Elden Ring, you play as an exiled member of the Tarnished seeking to restore the Elden Ring and become an Elden Lord.

To do this, players have an arsenal of tools and techniques to fight your way through the realm.

One such tool is the use of Incantations that let you cast magic against your opponents.

Here’s a quick guide on how to obtain, equip and use Incantations in Elden Ring.

What are Incantations in Elden Ring?

If you’ve played Dark Souls before, Incantations are similar to Miracles and Pyromancies from previous games made by FromSoftware.

The main difference is that it uses Faith instead of Intelligence.

Aside from offensive spells such as dealing damage to an area, some Incantations can have abilities that perform defensive and utility spells like healing and removing ailments.

How to Use Incantations in Elden Ring

To use Incantations, you must equip a Sacred Seal, which can be obtained throughout the game or purchased at shops. Some classes such as the Prophet and Confessor also start with a Sacred Seal.

To memorize an Incantation, you must go to a Site of Grace.

You can equip several Incantations depending on how many Memory Slots you have. You can increase your Memory Slots by obtaining Memory Stones, which are also scattered throughout the game.

Some Incantations have stat requirements before you can equip them.

After you’ve memorized an Incantation, you’ll now be able to use magic just like normal attacks.

Take note that using magic will consume Focus Points (FP), the energy resource used for casting Spells or Skills.

Lastly, Elden Ring’s weather effects can have a positive or negative effect on your spells.

For example, using fire spells will deal less damage under the rain, while lightning damage is increased.
